Wenger – An Arsenal genius

September 12, 2008

Arsene Wenger has spoken out about the trend for Middle Eastern football club owners.
He says the likes of Fabregas would not be sold even for the silly amounts such as £135m that are being talked about.

You’ve got to admire the man. Not only is he arguably the best club manager in world football, his words always raise an eyebrow.

Yes I know all the Fergie fans will be spitting at my words, but let’s face it when you compare the way Wenger actually manages his club, not just balancing the books but tipping them well in Arsenals favour, you have to say he is a great manager.

Anyway my point in this article is to focus on the things Mr Wenger has said in the past couple of days.

Firstly he played down Theo Walcotts performance saying it was a one off and we should not get carried away. secretly of course Wenger was dancing around in his pants later that night singing “There’s only one Theo Walcott!”

But it is a good move by the arsenal gaffer. Firstly it takes a bit of pressure off the young Arsenal player, secondly it makes chairmen like the Sheikhs and Abramovich’s take a breath or two before they throw a mega million pound offer on the table and thirdly it keeps youn Walcotts feet firmly on the floor and tell”s him “Don’t think this changes anything to do with my team selection for the weekend young man!”.

Wengers other comments about not liking the way Sheikhs are walking in throwing money about come at an interesting time.
Arsenal may well be looking for a buyer themselves at the moment, and with a stadium name like “the emirates” it’s going to attract a certain type of buyer. Let’s just hope that buyer can convince Mr Wenger to stay on board.

Berbatov Moving from Spurs to Manchester United? It looks like United will get Berbatov for approximately £25 million.

United have officially started negotiations with Spurs about the Bulgarian striker, although Spurs have apparantly said they will hold out for £28 million.

Ferguson has followed and made enquiries about Berbatov for the past 2 seasons and now appears to be the right time to make an official approach.

I think that Berbatov would be an amazing signing for United, the service he would receive from that team would surely see him hit the 30 goal mark and I see him as the key to deciding whether Ronaldo can go or not.

If they sign Berbatov expect to see Nani start making more appearances as they test the set up for Ronaldo’s departure, and if I am to be totally honest, with Dimitar on the books and Nani maturing into a top player in his own right, I think United can more than survive without Ronaldo.

I think they will have it more their own way this year than they did last year. They got off to a slow start last year, this year I expect to see them come flying out of the blocks and with Chelsea and Arsenal going through quite big changes at the moment I really can’t see Manchester United having much trouble defending their crown as Premier League champions.

And as an Everton supporter that’s not an easy thing to say!!

What do you think about the proposed signing of Berbatov?

Inter MilanWell, as I announced last week, Mourinho took over the Inter Milan coaching role yesterday.
Inter, dissapointed at their champions league performances in recent years thought Mourinho was the man to take them on to that next step and rumours are circulating that he’s got about £100 million to spend. My sources also tell me that Inter hurried along the sacking of Mancini and the public announcement of Mourinho being the new boss at the request of Mourinho who was keen to be unveiled before Euro 2008 kicks off in 4 days time. No doubt he’ll be building a bit of a shopping list during the tournament.

Also as I mentioned last week he is apparantly looking at his old favourites Didier Drgba and Frank Lampard and sounding them out about moves to Milan.
Another source has told me that Mourinho will off load Viera, as he does not rate the French man which may see the former Arsenal defender return to the Premier League and with Man City looking like they intend to make heavyweight changes over the summer, they may be candidates.
